It is breaking up state-owned Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd.\u2019s century-old monopoly into generation, distribution and transmission units. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nersa started a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nersa.org.za\/files\/files\/2025\/07\/MediaStatement-NERSAEmbarksonDevelopmentofElectricityTradingRules.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">process<\/a>\u00a0last month to develop electricity trading rules that are expected to be finished next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator ramped up&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nersa.org.za\/files\/files\/2024\/11\/Media-Statement-Energy-Regulator-Decisions-of-Meeting-285-held-on-29-October-2024.pdf#:~:text=The%20Energy%20Regulator%20approved%20four%20electricity%20trading%20licence%20applications%20for%20Discovery%20Green%20(Pty)%20Ltd%2C.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approvals<\/a>&nbsp;in November, granting licenses to Discovery Green, Green Electron Market, CBI Electric Apollo and GreenCo Power Services. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lyra Energy will fund, build, own, and operate generation assets with the electricity transmitted, or wheeled, to offtakers across the grid.
