TripAdvisor has released the results of its annual Top Destinations survey, which lists one South African city among the world’s best places to visit.<\/p>\n

Cape Town has been named one of the top destinations in the world \u2013 and second in Africa \u2013 according to TripAdvisor\u2019s 2015 Travelers\u2019 Choice awards.<\/p>\n

The ranking is based on millions of reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year, including hotels, restaurants and attractions in cities across the world.<\/p>\n

Cape Town ranked 10th on the list, overall, having climbed up from 19th position in 2014.<\/p>\n

Marrakech, in Morocco, was voted as the world’s top destination, having climbed up the list from 6th place in 2014.<\/p>\n

TripAdvisor describes the new number one city as\u00a0“a magical place, brimming with markets, gardens, palaces, and mosques.”<\/p>\n

Other top cities include Siem Reap in Cambodia (2nd – up from 9th in 2014), Istanbul, in Turkey (3rd, down from 2014’s number one), Hanoi in Vietnam (4th, up from 8th last year) and Prague (5th, same as last year).<\/p>\n

The travel site also looked at top destinations in Africa, where South African locations take up 12 of the top 25 spots.<\/p>\n

Cape Town ranks second in Africa (the same as 2014), followed by Knysna (5th), Franschhoek (9th) and Plettenberg Bay (10th) rounding off the top 10.<\/p>\n

Other SA locations that cracked the top 25 include Johannesburg (12th), Constantia (13th), Camps Bay (14th), Hermanus (18th), Paarl (19th), Stellenbosch (22nd), George (24th) and Langebaan (25th).<\/p>\n

South African destinations have dropped down the list of top spots in Africa, compared to 2014’s ranking, with a notable drop out of the top 25 for Durban, Pretoria, and Hazyview (Limpopo).<\/p>\n
