{"id":83613,"date":"2015-03-27T00:05:33","date_gmt":"2015-03-26T22:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=83613"},"modified":"2015-03-27T08:20:01","modified_gmt":"2015-03-27T06:20:01","slug":"south-africa-salaries-versus-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/83613\/south-africa-salaries-versus-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa salaries versus the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New data shows the monthly disposable incomes of people living around the world, including South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Using research compiled by Numbeo, Movehub.com published an infographic which shows that people living in Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Jersey, off the coast of Normandy, France, have the highest disposable incomes in the world.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the latter two countries have a population of approximately 550,000 and 100,000 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"excerpt\">The average person in Switzerland can expect to take home $6,300 (R75,000), after tax. With inflation taken into account, this year on year increase sits at 4.8%, with February&#8217;s inflation at 3.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Trading Economics data shows that the average salary (before tax) in South Africa is approximately <a title=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/78662\/zumas-salary-vs-other-world-leaders\/\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/78662\/zumas-salary-vs-other-world-leaders\/\">R178,000 per annum<\/a>, or R14,900 per month, which is also under the Numbeo report.<\/p>\n<p>When the BDSI launched in July 2012, the median salary of workers in the formal sector sat between R8,000 and R9,000, where\u00a025% of \u00a0take-home salaries were below R5,000.<\/p>\n<p>In January, BankServ reported that the number of workers\u00a0banking\u00a0under R4,000 had declined by 12.8% since 2013, showing a marked improvement in pay over the years.<\/p>\n<p>Previously reported data, however, shows that more than <a title=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/78815\/how-rich-are-you-really\/\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/78815\/how-rich-are-you-really\/\">half the South African population still earns less than R3,500 a month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Top 10
