{"id":838464,"date":"2025-09-29T07:39:44","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T05:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=838464"},"modified":"2025-09-29T07:39:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T05:39:44","slug":"south-african-suburb-ranked-one-of-the-coolest-in-the-world-and-good-news-for-people-with-dstv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/5-things\/838464\/south-african-suburb-ranked-one-of-the-coolest-in-the-world-and-good-news-for-people-with-dstv\/","title":{"rendered":"South African suburb ranked one of the &#8216;coolest&#8217; in the world, and good news for people with DStv"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The South African rand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/south-african-rand-edges-down-after-better-than-expected-us-data-2025-09-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weakened<\/a> in early trading on Friday, continuing the losses it experienced late the previous day when the dollar surged due to better-than-expected US economic data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rand was trading at 17.46 against the dollar, down approximately 0.2% from Thursday&#8217;s closing rate of 17.43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dollar index, which measures the greenback against major currencies, rose by 0.6% on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was after reports showed that US economic growth, unemployment claims, durable goods orders, and wholesale inventories all exceeded expectations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rand largely ignored this week&#8217;s local economic data releases, which included an unexpectedly sharp increase in producer inflation and a rise in a business cycle indicator that assesses the economic outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, 29 September, the rand was trading at R17.30 to the dollar, R23.25 to the pound and R20.29 to the Euro. Canal+ Africa CEO David Mignot mentioned that the companies will combine their catalogues.
