Eskom’s transmission spinoff, the National Transmission Company of South Africa (NTCSA) has appointed Monde Bala as its full-time chief executive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows Bala’s appointment as interim CEO back in July as the group made wider management changes amid its continued unbundling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eskom said that Bala has demonstrated leadership and understanding of the transmission business in his two months as interim CEO, making him the best person for the permanent appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bala has over 27 years of experience in the power sector and will lead the NTCSA’s strategy to attract investment and expand the transmission grid through the group’s development plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bala had served as Group Executive: Eskom Distribution since 2019 and has held various senior leadership roles in his 27 years at Eskom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and a Master of Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time of his appointment as interim CEO, he succeeded former Eskom GE for Transmission, Segomoco Scheppers, who returned to the main Eskom group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scheppers was seconded to lead the transition and operationalise the NTCSA business in July 2024 due to his extensive experience in Eskom\u2019s transmission division, having joined the power utility in 1993.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was shortlisted for the permanent role of NTCSA CEO, but the group\u2019s board said at the time that it had not yet identified the candidate to lead the business into its next phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eskom announced in July that Agnes Mlambo would become acting Group Executive for Distribution, effective 1 August 2025, taking over from Bala.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
