{"id":839572,"date":"2025-10-10T09:58:32","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T07:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=839572"},"modified":"2025-10-10T09:58:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T07:58:38","slug":"europe-investing-r230-billion-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/839572\/europe-investing-r230-billion-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe investing R230 billion in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The European Union has pledged \u20ac11.5 billion (R230 billion) in investment in South African sustainable energy projects, transport and health sectors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEurope is doubling down on its ambition to work with South Africa to become global leaders in the just energy transition, sustainable infrastructure, digital connectivity and pharmaceutical value chain,\u201d the EU\u2019s delegation to South Africa said in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/delegations\/south-africa\/team-europe-announces-%E2%82%AC12-billion-investment-package-south-africa%E2%80%99s-sustainable-future_en?fbclid=IwT01FWANU0CBleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHsiXM1T7WtPnB8w8bsCTAKMnsjkhLfT6nedtm7gMdpvqeACAz6pXn0xDVTTB_aem_bPVm68kjkPCeGoxr_Mmb7Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;on its website late Thursday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement comes after a pledge of \u20ac4.7 billion in March. The statement didn\u2019t elaborate if the latest amount is over and above that initial figure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About \u20ac8.7 billion will be in the form of blended financing \u2014 a combination of public and private money \u2014 with much of that going to build facilities to process critical minerals and green hydrogen in Africa\u2019s biggest economy, the delegation said in a factsheet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move will help the EU secure supplies of the minerals needed for energy transition.
