South Africa\u2019s cabinet has approved a new board for Eskom, with current chairperson Dr Mthetho Nyati\u2019s retaining his position overseeing the state-owned company.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cabinet welcomed Eskom\u2019s return to profitability after the entity reported a R16 billion profit after tax for the financial year ending March 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It added that the return to profitability is a bold statement about the SOE\u2019s turnaround. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On top of the impact of Operation Vulindlela structural reforms programme, the group credited Nyati, Eskom CEO Dan Marokane and Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa for the turnaround. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis milestone comes at a time when the country has marked another extended period without load shedding, over 150 consecutive days without load shedding, which is a clear indication that South Africa\u2019s electricity supply is stabilising,\u201d said the cabinet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEskom is now prioritising the elimination of load reduction in the next 12 to 18 months. Load reduction is currently implemented to safeguard critical infrastructure in areas affected by high energy losses and illegal connections.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nyati\u2019s term is yet to expire after taking over as chair in 2023, a year after the previous board was appointed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other remaining board members include Eskom\u2019s Chief Nuclear Officer Clive Le Roux and Dr Busisiwe Vilakazi, an expert from the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lwazi Goqwana, CEO of Infrastructure Specialist Group, and electrical engineer Dr Tsakani Mthomben also remain on the board. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
New members to the board include Dr Andrew Barendse, a regulatory expert in the telco space, and engineering expert, Dr Dimakatso Matshoga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Environmental scientist Dr Kgaogelo Chiloane, human resources expert Sharmila Govind, advocate Dr Vuyo Peach, and former Development Bank employee Tshokolo Nchocho are also on the board.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most prominent appointment is Bajabulile Tshabalala, who previosuly served as the Senior Vice President of the African Development Bank, where she is currently applying to be the President. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Directors to the Board of Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
