What drove this major change?

This rebrand is so much more than a logo and name change. This move represents a transformation in purpose and positioning.

PayInc has a long and respected history as the backbone of South Africa’s financial system, providing trusted, secure payment infrastructure for over five decades.

But the payments landscape has evolved dramatically. The emergence of digital payment solutions called for an organisation that could move at the same speed as innovation.

PayInc reflects that evolution. It’s our way of saying we are taking a bold approach as a partner shaping the future payments ecosystem in South Africa.

What was the thinking and decision-making process that guided the rebrand?

We approached the rebrand with great care and intention. The first step was to honour the legacy of BankservAfrica – a brand built on trust, reliability and integrity for processing interbank transactions effectively across electronic, card and cash payment streams.

We wanted to retain that sense of stability while embracing a future-focused identity that signals inclusivity and innovation for the benefit of the economy, businesses and South Africans.

The name ‘PayInc’ encapsulates both: “Pay” speaks to what we do at our core, and “Inc” represents our purpose of enabling economic inclusion.

Every element, from the name to the visual identity reflects a brand built to empower generations of South Africans to participate fully in the economy.

Why was this moment the right time to make the shift?

Timing was everything. PayInc landed after years of discussion and deliberation. When the time was right, we partnered with Grid Worldwide, to strategically co-conceptualise our new identity.

From exploring and testing multiple names in the market to refining the vision, every step brought us closer to the brand we’re proud to have launched. One that honours our legacy while representing the future we’re building through digital payments.

With the South African Reserve Bank now set to acquire a 50% stake in PayInc, we are entering a new era — one where public-private collaboration is central to building an inclusive, digital economy. The rebrand was a natural next step to reflect that future-facing role.

How does the new identity position PayInc for leadership in the digital payments era?

The payments ecosystem is rapidly shifting – with new digital payment innovations to new licensed participants joining the ecosystem.

PayInc’s new identity positions us as trusted partners, leading the charge in shaping SA’s future payments.

We’re building infrastructure that encourages innovation and enables businesses and South Africans to make their daily payments with confidence.

Our rebrand signals that we’re ready to lead this next phase boldly, collaboratively and intentionally focused on unlocking economic growth and enabling financial inclusion through secure and efficient digital payments.

How do you ensure continuity of trust while signalling innovation and agility?

That balance was at the heart of our rebranding strategy. PayInc’s greatest asset has always been trust. As a leading Automated Clearing House, we’ve provided the invisible rails which keeps South Africa’s payments moving.

We didn’t want to lose that. We’re looking to build on that foundation. The new brand identity combines the solidity of our legacy with the dynamism of a modern payments provider. It symbolises our role as the vital link between the economy and South Africans.

It reflects our position as a connector that enables growth, driving progress through an interconnected ecosystem where banks, fintechs, businesses, regulators and consumers can all thrive together.

At its core, our brand promise, ‘Making Great Connections’ captures both the functional and emotional power of payments: to enable access, to create opportunity, and to drive inclusive economic growth.

How will PayInc’s transformation support broader economic inclusion?

At its core, PayInc is about connecting more South Africans and the broader region; to the digital economy.

As the Scheme Owner and Manager for PayShap, SA’s first interbank instant payments service, and Transactions Cleared on an Immediate Basis (TCIB), our cross-border infrastructure that promotes regional integration, we’re making it possible for individuals and businesses alike to send and receive money instantly, securely in and from SA to the rest of the SADC.

This isn’t just about convenience; it’s about unlocking participation. When more people can transact digitally, more opportunities open for entrepreneurs, small businesses and communities.

Financial inclusion is not a slogan or creative catchphrase for us – it’s embedded in our name and mission.

Sum up for me in one sentence what the PayInc brand stands for?

PayInc stands for progress built on trust. It’s a brand which honours the strength of our past while embracing a bold, inclusive future – one where every transaction has the power to move South Africa forward.

Almost two months into transitioning BankservAfrica to PayInc, Head of Marketing Solly Bellingan reflects on what the change truly represents.

[10459
23495
post-840196","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-industry-news","tag-payinc
["GET
