The dollar rose about 0.4% against a basket of currencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Domestically, investors were focused on the producer inflation figures and budget balance data for September, seeking insights into the health of Africa&#8217;s largest economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data from the StatsSA indicated that producer inflation reached 2.3% year-on-year in September, up from 2.1% in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Economists polled by Reuters had anticipated an increase to 2.6%. The country&#8217;s economy recorded a budget deficit of R15.36 billion, according to data from the National Treasury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the Top 40 index was last reported down by 0.7%. Additionally, South Africa&#8217;s benchmark 2035 government bond traded weaker, with yields rising 2.5 basis points to 8.87%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, 30 October, the rand was trading at R17.18 to the dollar, R22.70 to the pound and R19.98 to the euro.
