{"id":843361,"date":"2025-11-16T21:06:52","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T19:06:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=843361"},"modified":"2025-11-16T21:12:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T19:12:50","slug":"plan-to-get-rid-of-cyril-ramaphosa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/843361\/plan-to-get-rid-of-cyril-ramaphosa\/","title":{"rendered":"Plan to get rid of Cyril Ramaphosa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are calls within the ANC to oust Cyril Ramaphosa, disband the NEC, and replace the leadership with a national task team led by former president Thabo Mbeki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sundayworld.co.za\/politics\/zikalala-slams-dark-forces-pushing-to-oust-ramaphosa\/\">Sunday World reported<\/a> that this plan was contained in a letter circulated among senior ANC members in the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANC Veterans League president Snuki Zikalala described the situation as a covert and divisive attempt to remove Ramaphosa from office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zikalala told Sunday World that the ANC Veterans League rejects any attempts to destabilise the government and that Ramaphosa should finish his term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe, as the league, are behind the president, and, as far as we are concerned, he must finish his term,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also speculation that Ramaphosa was preparing to step down after South Africa hands over the G20 presidency to the United States next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zikalala stated that the South African President had not expressed any such intention and that the rumours originated from unnamed sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa&#8217;s advisor and special envoy, Bejani Chauke, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bejani7\/status\/1985942217106587842\">has also dismissed rumours<\/a> that the president is planning to step down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This rumour is untrue and aims to cast aspersions on the successful build-up of the first-ever G20 Summit in Africa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chauke added that Ramaphosa&#8217;s international track record, undergirded by a national mandate to govern, is unquestionable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe President\u2019s mission has been to lead the fight for clean government and to reverse corruption and malfeasance, inspiring hope and resolve across the nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis has been seen in his commitment to see justice by elevating the importance of independent courts and judicial commissions of enquiry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said Ramaphosa has consistently and resolutely expressed his commitment to national unity, fostering a sense of cohesion and solidarity among South Africans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe South African constitutional framework permits a president to serve a maximum of two terms,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Ramaphosa completed his first term and was re-elected by parliament, a democratic institution representing the people\u2019s will, to serve a second term.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frans Cronje&#8217;s view on the issue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Frans-Cronje.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Frans-Cronje-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-814658\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Frans-Cronje-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Frans-Cronje-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Frans-Cronje-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Frans-Cronje.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dr Frans Cronje<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Renowned political and economic expert Dr Frans Cronje <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K-sgnMfBt80\">said<\/a> their assumption remained that Ramaphosa would remain President until 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur assumption is that President Cyril Ramaphosa will exit by the end of 2027 or the start of 2028 after the ANC has had its elective conference,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that despite media reports about Ramaphosa\u2019s supposed plans to resign, there is nothing to suggest that this is the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is also nothing that we could learn to suggest that Ramaphosa is planning to resign,\u201d Cronje said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think Ramaphosa is going to resign soon. I think he will stick around for another two years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cronje added that if Ramaphosa were to resign, it would be a strange decision for the ANC to make, as it is unclear who would succeed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that Ramaphosa is viewed favorably by around half of South Africa\u2019s voters, which is relatively strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even more telling is that 84% of ANC voters view the President favourably or very favourably, showing his popularity among the party\u2019s voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of Ramaphosa\u2019s rivals and potential ANC Presidents come close to the ratings he is achieving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor Ramaphosa to achieve an 84% favorability rating among ANC voters is astonishing.
