Achieves R40 million net profit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The CSIR has reported a net profit of R40.62 million for the 2024\/25 financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This hugely exceeded the targeted loss of R67.6 million, and is a testament to the growth and success the organisation is experiencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csir.co.za?utm_source=BusinessTech&amp;utm_medium=Article&amp;utm_term=November+2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Click here to learn more about the CSIR.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe results we have achieved over the past year demonstrate very clearly how the CSIR has contributed to strengthening our country,\u201d said CSIR CEO Dr Thulani Dlamini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe CSIR continues to play a critical role in addressing South Africa\u2019s developmental challenges &#8211; particularly poverty, unemployment and inequality &#8211; in line with our mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside its net profit, the CSIR also achieved or exceeded 29 out of its 31 key performance indicators (KPIs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These KPIs are generated using a combination of past performance and future projections (based on projects that are in the pipeline).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, meeting these KPIs is proof that the organisation is operating well across all of its areas of priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other key areas of year-on-year growth for the CSIR during the 2024\/25 financial year included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>11% increase in localised technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>17% rise in joint technology development agreements with industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3% increase in small, medium and micro enterprises supported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>22% increase in projects implemented for government and state-owned entities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>27% increase in publication equivalents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>31% increase in the number of chief researchers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of these indicators demonstrate very clearly the value the CSIR adds to the state, as well as the private sector,\u201d said Dlamini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CSIR-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CSIR-11-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-843811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CSIR-11-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CSIR-11-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CSIR-11-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CSIR-11.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>CSIR CEO Dr Thulani Dlamini<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sustainable progress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Dr Kaven Naidoo, Group Executive for Business Excellence and Integration at the CSIR, the organisation continues to prove that it is a highly productive and impactful entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He highlighted that the CSIR is only 20% funded by its state grant, whereas the remaining 80% of its funding must be secured through partnerships with various stakeholders \u2013 both local and international.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, generating a profit and exceeding its own projections shows that the CSIR is doing great work and building strong partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the CSIR operates effectively across a wide range of sectors, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medicine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Military Equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food Products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mining<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manufacturing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sonar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cybersecurity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supply Chains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Election Forecasting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Utilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And much more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is focused both on creating its own technology and localising existing ones within each of these sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to this diverse range of competencies, the CSIR has become a critical partner for many public and private entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur contributions are not only through technology,\u201d added Dlamini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey are also through the knowledge that we provide to government and industry in various forms \u2013 such as policymaking and the development of standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis makes our industries and government knowledgeable buyers and users of technology solutions,\u201d said Dlamini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csir.co.za?utm_source=BusinessTech&amp;utm_medium=Article&amp;utm_term=November+2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Click here to learn more about the CSIR.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CSIR continues to play a critical role in addressing South Africa\u2019s developmental challenges &#8211;
