Schalk Brits is a Springbok legend and is now working at Investec as a\u00a0Wealth Manager and the Sector Lead for Investec Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brits was scouted at the age of 17, and played professional rugby while completing his degree in Management Accountancy at Stellenbosch University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brits\u2019 rugby career saw him play for the Western Province, Golden Lions, Blue Bulls and the UK-based Saracens, where he won four Premiership titles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was capped 15 times by the Springboks between 2008 and 2019, having played at the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He came out of retirement to play at the 2019 World Cup in Japan, where South Africa would win the title. He captained the team in their second game against Namibia during the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite playing sports full-time, Brits worked a variety of financial roles alongside his rugby career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After retiring from rugby in 2019, he returned to his finance roots, where he joined Remgro, the Stellenbosch investment holding company founded by South Africa\u2019s richest man, Johann Rupert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then worked as Business Development Director at Southern Right Capital. He then took an 18-month sabbatical to reconnect with his WHY. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then decided to join Investec in April 2024, where he became a Wealth Manager. In July 2025, he got another role as the head of Investec Sports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brits said that his rugby experience taught him about problem-solving, leadership, making teams work efficiently, and iron-clad relationships to create a win for everyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He brought this same ethos to Wealth Management at Investec, where he helps clients reach their goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the sector lead for Investec Sports, he brings a 20-year career, a robust network, and a deep understanding of the athletes who need to lead a national team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brits noted that two-thirds of athletes go into financial distress within five years of retiring from professional sports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of Investec Sports is to support these athletes by providing financial guidance and services to help them secure their long-term futures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brits is also an ambassador for several brands that resonate with his values. He also gives public talks about leadership, team building, and his insights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNelson Mandela said that sport can unite a nation, and I believe the power of sport is only growing as the world faces increasing change and volatility,\u201d said Brits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many sports stars face uncertain futures following their early retirement, several former Springboks are successful in their post-retirement careers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning Captain John Smit<\/a>, who is the CEO of security company SSG. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SSG was recently acquired by South Africa\u2019s largest private security company, Fidelity, which a former Springbok, Wahl Bartmann. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Africa\u2019s record try scorer, Bryan Habana<\/a>, is also the co-founder of Paymenow, which is one of the fastest-growing companies on the continent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another 2007 World Cup Winner, Bob Skinstad<\/a>, has also been a successful businessman in South Africa, the UK and France. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current players have also been expanding beyond the game, with Ox Nche<\/a> working as a franchisee and ambassador for the newly-launched The Braai Republic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
