Former Capitec chief executive Gerrie Fourie has been appointed as an independent non-executive director of private education group, STADIO Holdings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appointment was effective 27 November 2025, with Fourie expected to support the group’s drive to enhance accessible and quality education, and widen access to higher education in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
STADIO said the former banking exec will be instrumental in supporting its goal to serve 100,000 students in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I\u2019ve long believed in the transformative power of education to unlock opportunity. I\u2019m honoured to contribute to STADIO\u2019s vision of broadening access to higher learning and building a sustainable, student-focused organisation,” Fourie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
STADIO said Fourie will bring “deep expertise in systems thinking, business process optimisation, and performance improvement-capabilities” to the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This aligns strongly with STADIO\u2019s focus on scalability, operational efficiency, and delivering student-centric education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourie was part of the founding management team of Capitec Bank in 2000 and served as CEO from 2014 until his retirement in July 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under his leadership, Capitec cemented its position as one of South Africa\u2019s most innovative and accessible financial institutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourie launched the bank alongside PSG Group founder Jannie Mouton, Michiel Le Roux, and Riaan Stassen, the latter two of whom were the CEOs before Fourie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite being large shareholders, none of the original founders have been active in the group\u2019s day-to-day activities over the last few years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourie officially left Capitec in a management capacity at the end of July, succeeded by current CEO, Graham Lee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While not involved in managing the bank, Fourie said he will remain involved in the group for a couple of years and hopes to one day join the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Capitec\u2019s long-term strategy will focus on establishing a global brand, which Fourie will help with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With more free time, Fourie said that he plans to spend more time on his passions, which include conservation and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is a part owner of the Gondwana Game Reserve in the Western Cape, where he wants to restore conservation, promote tourism, and develop golf at the estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
