The regulator is appealing the latest court ruling that overturned a fine imposed on the DBE for publishing the 2024 results, despite claims that it contravenes South Africa’s privacy laws. Views on the matter are split, with some legal experts agreeing that publishing the results contravenes the laws. In contrast, others argue that it is overreach and “hyper-protective” based on assumptions. The most significant change is expected to result from the 2026 municipal elections, which he believes will lead to a shift away from the ANC in many areas, marking a period of political transition in the country. Even though Roodt expects the country\u2019s economy to be broadly similar to that of 2025, he noted that it would likely perform slightly better. December saw oil prices trade in a wider range, while the rand ended the year on a much stronger footing. This led to a stronger over-recovery in fuel prices for the month, leading to significant price cuts for petrol and diesel in the new year. From Wednesday, petrol users will see prices decrease by 62-66 cents per litre, while diesel drivers will see a much larger cut between 137 and 150 cents per litre. Airlink and FlySafair confirmed delays to their flights on Sunday afternoon and night, blaming the issue on Air Traffic & Navigation Services (ATNS). The delays have had a ripple effect on schedules, with airlines asking passengers for patience and understanding. The situation is being addressed, and normal scheduling should return in due course.
