The V&A Waterfront has welcomed the arrival of Graham Wood as its new CEO, bidding farewell to former lead David Green, who headed the development for almost two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wood is taking the reins at the mixed-use development as it is undergoing massive upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The V&A Waterfront is an iconic 123-hectare mixed-use development which caters to local and international investors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has grown into one of Africa\u2019s most visited destinations and a leading global waterfront precinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It attracts over 25 million visitors annually and has approximately 13 hotels, 450 retail outlets, 80 restaurants, and a wide range of leisure activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It features a diverse range of amenities, including retail outlets, hotels, dining options, offices, entertainment venues, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, and the popular Orangezicht market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development is jointly owned by Growthpoint Properties and the Public Investment Corporation, with the landlords benefiting from heightened demand for the precinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the new CEO, Wood is expected to bring his deep experience from across the property, hospitality and tourism sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has a strong track record in destination leadership, having previously worked for Southern Sun, Sun International and Valor Hospitality Partners across several areas in South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wood played an instrumental role in the rejuvenation of the popular Sun City Resort and in improving the operating capability and profitability of its Hotels, Resorts and Casinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The V&A Waterfront said that Wood’s appointment follows a comprehensive local and international search, reflecting its long-term vision for the precinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company expressed its gratitude and appreciation to outgoing CEO David Green, who held the role for nearly two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Under his visionary leadership for nearly 17 years, the V&A Waterfront has grown into one of Africa\u2019s most visited destinations,” said The V&A Waterfront <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With a strong foundation in place, Graham takes the helm to build on this legacy and guide the Waterfront\u2019s next phase of growth, innovation and connection.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wood’s appointment follows a host of updates for the mixed-use development, including infrastructure improvements and partnerships with international companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headlining the next phase for the precinct is a massive R20 billion expansion, which involves reclaiming approximately 3.2 hectares of land from the sea in Table Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should the expansion proceed as planned, the precinct will experience a significant influx of investment and construction activity over the next five years, extending to over two decades of active development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, even in the shorter term, the waterfront is changing shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December, the Oranjezicht City Farm Market relocated to a new, purpose-built home situated just meters from its previous site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The market is now founded in a custom-built timber barn with panoramic views of Robben Island and Table Bay, marrying rustic charm with contemporary design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the market supporting over 100 traders, the new stall designs offer upgraded facilities, including running water and extraction fans, for food traders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elsewhere, Marriott International will soon bring its EDITION Hotels brand to Africa with The Cape Town EDITION. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set to open in 2026, the development will mark the first EDITION Hotel on the African continent. It will feature 142 “elegantly designed” guest rooms and suites, as well as world-class dining experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes a signature rooftop bar, as well as a spa, pool, and meeting and event facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will also include The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION, which includes six private residences that will embody the EDITION\u2019s signature contemporary luxury and refined simplicity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While less glossy, the development has also been working on replacing its ageing bulk water and sewage infrastructure to support future developments planned for the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Waterfront said that the maintenance has been both urgent and necessary to ensure the precinct remains safe, accessible, and well-maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the water and sewage upgrades were placed on hold for the busy festive season, they are set to recommence in the coming days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
