Eskom has announced that it will implement Stage 2 Load shedding on Monday (13 April), taking up to 2000MW off the grid\u00a0for a third day out of the last four.<\/p>\n
“Eskom regrets to announce that Stage 2\u00a0 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 to 22:00 today,” the group said.<\/p>\n
“As the power system is constrained and vulnerable any unexpected changes could lead to a change in the load shedding stage at short notice.”<\/p>\n
Eskom told Media24 that, while construction workers continued their stay-away at Medupi power station on Monday, the risk of load shedding throughout the week was highly likely.<\/p>\n
Construction workers continued their stay-away in solidarity with about 1,700 workers who were fired or faced disciplinary action following a March 25 strike, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) said.<\/p>\n
Steve Nhlapo, head of collective bargaining at Numsa, on Monday told Fin24 that Medupi\u2019s construction site was shut down.<\/p>\n
Nhlapo said Numsa and Eskom\u2019s Medupi leadership were about to meet to discuss the situation, and that there would be an update at 16h00.<\/p>\n
Engineers told Eskom\u2019s leadership on Monday that the system would be highly constrained for the entire week due to planned and unplanned maintenance, Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe told Fin24.<\/p>\n
