Springfield Convent and Curro Century City in Cape Town are two private schools in the country that have partnered with Woolworths Foods at their tuckshops, operated only by Woolworths staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The South African grocery retailer, which promises 100% non-genetically modified (GMO) food in its private-label products, currently sells its products at two private school tuckshops in Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Woolworths is committed to supporting learners with thoughtful everyday choices, reinforcing a positive relationship with food from a young age and setting a higher standard for school tuck shop offerings,” said Woolworths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Springfield Convent in Wynberg was the first school to partner with Woolworths, opening its Woolworths tuckshop in 2023, which was converted from a shipping container.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, 26 January 2026, Curro Century City in Cape Town became the second school in the country to partner with Woolworths Foods at its tuckshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Woolworths tuckshop at Curro is a cashless facility that requires learners to pay with bank cards or the Karri App, which allows parents to track their child’s spending and plan meals in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Karri app, which launched in 2024, is a payments app aimed at eliminating cash in schools. It notifies learners’ parents and enables instant school payments. The app partners with over 1500 private and public schools nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Woolworths tuckshops are cashless, and learners can view the Woolworths tuckshop menu on the Karri App.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents are able to load a maximum of R25,000 onto the Karri App – that’s equivalent to 357 Chicken and Bacon sandwiches from Woolworths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curro explained that the reason for the move was to offer its learners healthy, high-quality food in portions and at prices that are appropriate and targeted to their age group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curro Holdings was founded in 1998 by Chris van der Merwe with only 28 students in a Durbanville church. It has since expanded into Southern Africa’s biggest private education provider, now featuring more than 180 schools and over 70,000 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curro Holdings operates 36 schools in the Western Cape, including pre-primary, primary, and high schools. Three of these are located on the Century City campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woolworths has said that it is not immune to future opportunities; however, the retailer has not announced any concrete plans to expand its Woolworths tuckshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We remain committed to testing and learning from our two existing tuckshops and look forward to improving and refining our offering as we go,” Woolworths told BusinessTech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a recent trading statement, Woolworths said it expects earnings per share to drop by 35.0% to 30.0%, to a range of 159.5 to 171.8 cents per share. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This decline results from including the profit from the sale of the Bourke Street property in Melbourne in the previous period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 2025 financial year, Woolworths sold the property for A$223.5 million \u2013 about R2.5 billion, recognising a profit of R792 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Excluding this sale, the company expects headline earnings per share to rise by 7.0% to 12.0%, reaching a range of 163.5 to 171.1 cents per share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woolworths South Africa achieved impressive turnover and concession sales growth of 6.8% for the period, even amidst low consumer confidence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Food division continued to perform well, reporting turnover and concession sales growth of 7.0% and 5.2% on a comparable-store basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Food sector experienced consistent month-on-month gains in market share and positive underlying volume growth, thanks to ongoing investments in enhancing its premium food offerings and overall customer experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, revenue from Woolies Dash surged by 23.0%, with the online channel now contributing 7.2% to SA Food sales. The net trading space also expanded by 4.3% (weighted basis: 1.8%) compared to the previous period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, Woolworths launched its 100th Foodstop and announced a trial of new \u201cafter dark\u201d delivery services via Uber Eats, in collaboration with Engen Quickshop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customers in South Africa can order Woolworths products from Woolworths Foodstops at Engen via the Uber Eats app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This service enables them to access selected Woolworths items well beyond standard delivery hours, with orders accepted until midnight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, the group noted that nearly 20% of sales from participating Woolworths Foodstops were driven by Woollies After Dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
