Eskom has announced that it will be forced to implement stage 3 load shedding on Tuesday evening from 18h00, until 22h00.<\/p>\n
The energy supplier said that it’s system continued to take strain during the day.<\/p>\n
It also represents the highest stage reached in load shedding in recent weeks, and follows two days of stage 2 load shedding experienced since Sunday.<\/p>\n
Eskom has been forced into rolling blackouts in 2015 following the collapse of one of its coal storage silos, diesel shortages, and maintenance issues.<\/p>\n
Stage 3 load shedding allows for 4,000MW of power to be pulled from the grid.<\/p>\n
Power shortages in South Africa has curbed economic growth by as much as 10%, while also preventing mass employment opportunities, Dawie Roodt, chief economist at Efficient Group told Bloomberg.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is more than 300 billion rand ($25.3 billion), or more than a million job opportunities,\u201d the economist said.<\/p>\n
A presentation by the department of public enterprises to parliament at the end of March said that power cuts implemented by Eskom cost South Africa\u2019s economy R80 billion\u00a0a month.<\/p>\n
