{"id":850615,"date":"2026-02-11T13:03:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T11:03:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=850615"},"modified":"2026-02-11T13:04:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T11:04:44","slug":"new-bank-branches-where-south-africans-can-get-their-smart-ids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/850615\/new-bank-branches-where-south-africans-can-get-their-smart-ids\/","title":{"rendered":"New bank branches where South Africans can get their Smart IDs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Standard Bank has confirmed the phased rollout of its Smart ID application and renewal services at more branches across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard Bank, along with a host of other banks in South Africa, has signed on to expand Smart ID services across its branches in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having already signed on to the initial pilot 10 years ago, the new service will see banks assume greater responsibility for issuing Smart IDs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard Bank said the expanded service will begin at its<strong> Rosebank,<\/strong> <strong>Maponya Mall<\/strong>, and <strong>Westgate<\/strong> branches before expanding nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the launch phase, Standard Bank <strong>clients will not be charged any convenience or logistics fees<\/strong> and will only pay the Home Affairs application fee of R140.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amid the lack of additional fees, the bank will focus on testing, refining, and responsibly scaling the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAccess to identity documents is foundational to participation in the economy,\u201d said Marius Le Roux, Head of Fraud Operations, Client Experience and Risk Execution at Standard Bank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur focus is on removing friction for clients, not adding to it.
