Sean Summers, the Group CEO of Pick n Pay, will soon become the chairperson of discount retailer Boxer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boxer is majority owned by Pick n Pay despite being listed on the JSE in 2024. The value retailer has been one of the bright sparks for the group, which has suffered billions in cumulative losses since 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group said that James Formby, the chairperson of Pick n Pay, will step down as the company’s chair on 28 February 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Formby will remain on the board as a non-independent non-executive director, with effect from 1 March 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before taking over from the former chairperson of Pick n Pay, Gareth Ackerman, in August 2025, Formby said that he would leave his role as Boxer chairperson at the end of the 2026 financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the move, Summers will assume the role of chairperson, with effect from 1 March 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Summers will step down as a member of the company’s Remuneration Committee, while Formby takes the role. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The board expresses its sincere appreciation to James for his leadership and valuable contribution as chair of the Company and looks forward to his continued service as a non-executive director and committee member,” Boxer said.
“The board welcomes Sean as chair and is confident that his extensive retail experience and strategic leadership will support the Company’s continued growth and performance.”
