{"id":851907,"date":"2026-02-24T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=851907"},"modified":"2026-02-25T20:51:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T18:51:27","slug":"chinese-and-indian-car-brands-taking-over-dealerships-across-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/851907\/chinese-and-indian-car-brands-taking-over-dealerships-across-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese and Indian car brands taking over dealerships across South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Super Group has seen improved performance across its dealership network, buoyed by the rise of Indian and Chinese car brands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its interim financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2025, the group said that its South African supply chain and dealership operations underpinned its robust performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said that its South African dealerships significantly outperformed the broader market, with growth in both new and used vehicle sales reflecting the benefits of a diversified brand portfolio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group&#8217;s dealership network also benefited from the early investment in emerging Chinese and Indian brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Revenue performance was supported by a well-diversified portfolio of value and volume brands, together with a vastly expanded representation of emerging Chinese and Indian manufacturers,&#8221; it said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The division&#8217;s new-car sales volumes from emerging Chinese and Indian brands grew by 102.0% over the prior period and accounted for 29.7% of total new-car sales volumes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the period, Super Group added three Geely dealerships, two Tata Motors and Mahindra dealerships, one GWM dealership, and one Ford dealership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group now runs 28 operations representing emerging Chinese and Indian brands. These brands have boomed in South Africa amid their value-for-money, as many are priced out of European models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The South African dealership division saw revenue increase by 12.7% to R6 billion, with operating profit standing at R209.2 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the group&#8217;s UK Dealerships have also seen an influx of Chinese brands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said that the restructuring and consolidation of the UK dealerships, as well as the addition of Chinese brands, have resulted in 50.4% growth in operating profit for the UK business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Financial results <\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Across its entire operations, Super Group saw revenue from continuing operations increase by 7.0% to R22.68 billion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group&#8217;s EBITDA increased by 5.9% to R1.96 billion, and operating profit increased by 8.7% to R1.10 billion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Headline earnings per share from continuing operations were up 28.0% to 155.4 cents, and earnings per share from continuing operations increased by 26.1% to 157.5 cents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, headline earnings from total operations including discontinued operations) decreased by 42.9% to 139.6 cents (December 2024: 244.3 cents). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was due to the profits from the SG Fleet business, sold in April 2025, being included in the prior comparative period&#8217;s results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earnings per share for total operations decreased by 85.6% to 23.9 cents (December 2024: 165.7 cents) due to the impairment of AMCO\u2019s
