Cape Town International Airport is stabilising after a fire broke out yesterday, 24 February, but there are still disruptions for travellers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire took place at the International Inner Lane (Northern Service Yard). It was extinguished, with no injuries reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire caused the suspension of international flights and the airport’s communication services. The power across the terminal was temporarily isolated to allow for safety assessment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

International departures resumed yesterday evening, with a few international flights diverted during the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) noted that power and most systems have been restored via the system, with some manual processing remaining in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACSA said that most check-in systems are fully operational, but Lift Airlines continues to process passengers manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Border Management Authority (BMA) and Customers are also using manual systems, resulting in extended wait times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to baggage, processing is currently manual, with delivery delays expected. However, in a positive for travellers, the domestic travel operations have returned to normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACSA has made certain changes to the airport’s layout, with the international corridor remaining closed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meeters and greeters are now being redirected to the temporary area at the International Inner Lane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers who were unable to collect their luggage yesterday can collect their bags at the Northern side of the meet-and-greet entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers are to contact their airline’s ground handling agent, whether it’s Menzies Aviation or Colossal Aviation Services, before arriving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To reduce unnecessary congestion at the terminal, passengers have been strongly encouraged to check the ACSA app or contact their airline to confirm their flight status. <\/p>\n\n\n
