{"id":852301,"date":"2026-02-26T11:17:27","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T09:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=852301"},"modified":"2026-02-26T11:17:31","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T09:17:31","slug":"south-africas-most-popular-restaurants-opening-locations-across-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/852301\/south-africas-most-popular-restaurants-opening-locations-across-the-country\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s most popular restaurants opening locations across the country"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Spur Corporation has expanded its restaurant network across South Africa and its international markets, with the total number of locations now over 750, and more are on the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2025, the group traded out of 753 restaurants in 14 countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In South Africa, 29 new restaurants were opened during the period, which included seven new Spur restaurants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This group also opened two John Dory\u2019s, five RocoMamas, four Doppio Zeros, two Hussar Grills, one Casa Bella and one Nikos in South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This expanded the group&#8217;s local restaurant footprint to 640. Moreover, 26 restaurants were revamped. The group, however, closed eight restaurants in South Africa over the six-month period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group opened nine new restaurants in the rest of Africa during the period, which increased the international store network to 113. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This included the reintroduction of the Spur brand into Lesotho in September 2025. The group also revamped three international restaurants, while John Dory&#8217;s store in Zambia was closed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The group\u2019s network development strategy, known as the \u2018R8 model\u2019, which focuses on restaurant revamps, relocations and revival strategies, remains a key tool in evolving the brand networks into leading experiences for customers,&#8221; it said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said that it continues to secure key trading sites and plans to open a total of 42 new restaurants in South Africa and 14 internationally over the 2026 financial year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spur restaurants were the primary revenue source over the reporting period, seeing sales increase by 7.2% to R3.7 billion. competitive trading performance underpinned continued strong growth in both revenue and profitability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Group revenue increased by 8.5% to R2.2 billion. Improved restaurant turnover translated into 7.5% revenue growth in South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Manufacturing and distribution division also saw an additional boost in revenue growth, with a 11.5% increase over the prior period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group stressed that the current period includes the impact of insourcing the management of the group\u2019s retail products offering, which was not included in the comparable period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While the change has not yet resulted in a significant change in revenue, an improved operating margin has increased the division\u2019s contribution to group profits,&#8221; the group said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Retail company stores segment also saw a 5.5% decline in revenue, mainly due to the closure of the Ciccio concept store in the second half of the previous financial year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group also sold a Doppio Zero restaurant to a franchisee in the first quarter of the current financial year. Outside the contributions for these two stores, revenue for the Retail company stores increased by 2.4%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group&#8217;s profit before income tax increased by 13.0% to R244.7 million over the period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group&#8217;s headline earnings per share increased by 12.9% to R163 million.
