Prince Buthelezi Mall is nearing completion in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal and is set to open at the end of April 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mall, which Moolman Group is developing in partnership with Twin City and Melta Capital, has undergone extensive development over the last 15 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre has been designed to serve as a regional hub, offering a mix of everyday essentials, fashion, food and leisure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mall is named after former IFP leader and Zulu Prince, Mangosuthu Buthelezi.\u00a0The 37,000 sqm centre will house around 90 stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes spanning supermarkets, fashion, restaurants, speciality retail offerings and drive-throughs, many of which are the first for the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the construction of the mall, over 2,000 workers were employed, with many additional jobs expected to be created when trading begins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moolman added that the developers are also investing R90 million into upgrading surrounding infrastructure, including the bridge and roads leading to the centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The developers have also worked closely with local taxi associations to supply efficient commuter access between the nearby CBD and the mall. The mall will have its own on-site taxi rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This integrated approach reflects a long-term commitment to the area, positioning the mall as both a commercial catalyst and a practical addition to daily life in Empangeni,” said Moolman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The developer added that the mall blends modern design with a soothing\u00a0upmarket aesthetic and is inspired by the lush green hills of the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside the mall, shoppers will find communal seating areas, plenty of greenery, a large entertainment space with a big-screen viewing area, free Wi-Fi, ample bathrooms, and a creative kids’ area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Plenty of parking bays, strong security measures and clear sightlines have been prioritised to create a calm and comfortable shopping experience,” said Moolman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The design focuses on flow, visibility and accessibility, ensuring the centre is easy to navigate and suited to both quick visits and longer stays.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the opening next month, the team is already engaging with the local community to build familiarity and excitement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Prince Buthelezi Mall is envisioned to be a first-class regional centre, featuring contemporary design, thoughtful amenities and shared spaces where people can reconnect,” said Moolman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For Empangeni, it represents confidence in the area\u2019s growth and a tangible step forward in its retail landscape.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
