Current Transnet chief, Brian Molefe, has been appointed as new acting CEO of struggling power utility, Eskom.<\/p>\n

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown said Brian Molefe’s secondment to Eskom as acting chief executive officer is with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

It is understood that Molefe will leave Transnet, with his replacement expected to be announced on Monday, according to minister Brown.<\/p>\n

Molefe said his immediate priority is to minimise the current load-shedding that the country is experiencing.<\/p>\n

Eskom has been forced into rolling blackouts in 2015 following the collapse of one of its coal storage silos, diesel shortages, and maintenance issues.<\/p>\n

Leadership issues also continue to plague the power utility following the sacking of chairman, Zola Tsotsi<\/span>, and the suspension of Eskom\u2019s CEO, Tshediso Matona, and three other senior executives including the financial director.<\/p>\n

Judgment in the challenge by Matona to have his suspension set aside was reserved by the Labour Court in early March.<\/p>\n

Molefe has served as Transnet CEO since 2011. He was also an executive director at Telkom (2008 – 2010) and CEO of Public Investment Corporation between 2003 and 2010.<\/p>\n
