This was below Investec and PSG&#8217;s prediction of 1.3% for 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual increase was primarily due to higher economic activities in the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Finance, real estate and business services (1.9% and contributing 0.5 of a percentage point), <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agriculture, forestry and fishing (17.4% and contributing 0.4 of a percentage point) and <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trade, catering and accommodation (2.3% and contributing 0.3 of a percentage point).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The group, however, saw manufacturing, electricity, gas, water, and construction industries record negative growth in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest figure marks an improvement from 2023 and 2024, when the South African economy was impacted by load shedding, higher risk-off sentiment, and elevated interest rates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expenditure on GDP increased by 1.4% in 2025, following an increase of 0.4% in 2024. Household final consumption expenditure increased by 3.6%, contributing 2.4 percentage points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HFCE saw positive contributions from the following:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Food and non-alcoholic beverages (3,6% and contributing 0.5 of a percentage point)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transport (3.0% and contributing 0.5 of a percentage point)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clothing and footwear (6.6% and contributing 0.4 of a percentage point)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health (4.1% and contributing 0.3 of a percentage point)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restaurants and hotels (5.1% and contributing 0.3 of a percentage point) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Gross fixed capital formation decreased by 2.2% over the period, contributing 0.3 percentage points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Changes in inventories contributed 0.4 of a percentage point to the total growth, while net exports contributed -1.0 percentage point to the total growth in expenditure on GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominal GDP for 2025 at market prices 2025 was R7.6 trillion, which was around R289 billion more than in 2024.
