The former home of Markus Jooste and the Rupert family in Hermanus has been sold to investors for R105 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sale of the historic Vo\u00eblklip property includes two\u00a0plots totalling 7,000 square meters,\u00a0with extensive gardens and sea views. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jooste was the former CEO of Steinhoff and was at the helm when a massive accounting scandal broke. Jooste died in 2024, a day after he was fined R475 million by the FSCA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rupert family are the richest in South Africa, with Johann Rupert having a net worth of around $16 billion (R260 billion). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeff said that the properties in Vo\u00eblklip are among the most recognisable estates in Hermanus and were acquired by investors who view them as long-term strategic holdings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeff added that the buyers are also currently investigating several options to optimise the properties in a manner which restores and enhances their value while contributing positively to the broader community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese properties form part\u00a0of the historical fabric of Hermanus,\u00a0and their sale marks the beginning of a new chapter for a truly iconic estate,\u201d said Paul Kruger, licensee for Seeff Hermanus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe investors recognise both the significance of the properties\u00a0and the exceptional setting of Vo\u00eblklip, and firmly view\u00a0the properties as a long-term strategic investment.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Several possibilities are currently being considered to ensure\u00a0that the estate\u2019s future positioning is approached in a responsible and considered manner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kruger said that Hermanus continues to attract significant interest from local and international investors seeking high-quality coastal assets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHermanus remains one of South Africa\u2019s most desirable coastal destinations. Transactions of this nature\u00a0reaffirm the long-term confidence investors have\u00a0in the town and the continued strength of its luxury property market.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further details regarding the future of the properties are also expected to be communicated once the investors have completed their strategic evaluation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
