Dr Christopher Loewald will join the board of PSG Financial Services after his retirement as the Chief Economist of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loewald started working at the SARB in 2011. He was also a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) from 2019 until his early retirement on 1 March 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Chief Economist, he led the SARB’s Economic Research Department, which was responsible for forecasting, global economic analysis, climate change-related research and policy development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before joining the SARB, he spent 13 years at National Treasury, where he was responsible for developing the nation’s macroeconomic policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loewald will soon work as an independent non-executive director of PSG, with effect from 1 September 2026. He will also serve on the company’s audit and risk committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loewald has a PhD and a Master’s degree in International Economics and European Studies from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board said that a fit and proper assessment was conducted in respect of Dr Loewald and that the board is satisfied with the outcome thereof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The board extends a warm welcome to Dr Loewald and looks forward to his contribution.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PSG Financial Services also announced a host of other board changes, which include Liz\u00e9 Lambrechts taking on several roles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PSG Financial Services founder Willem Theron will retire from several roles at the group’s AGM in July 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lambrechts, who has been on the board since 2023, will step down from the audit committee prior to the AGM. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She will, however, take over as the independent non-executive chairperson of the board, chairperson of the Treasury board, and chairperson of the nominations committee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lambrechts is a qualified actuary and holds a BSc Hons (cum laude) degree in applied mathematics
from the University of Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has extensive experience in the financial services industry and has fulfilled various senior executive roles within the Sanlam Group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was the Chief Executive of Sanlam Personal Finance for 12 years, after which she served as Santam’s Chief Executive Officer for 7 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also served as chairperson of the South African Insurance Association and Life Offices Association.
