The new South African mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) has been revealed as me&you mobile\u00a0– and the company is\u00a0set to launch its first products on 4 May 2015.<\/p>\n
Me&you mobile is headed up by Brett Howell, who says the operator will be South Africa\u2019s first SIM-only mobile operator, meaning that they will not sell any handsets.<\/p>\n
The company is planning to set itself apart by offering South Africans a good value proposition and flexibility, without them needing to sign a traditional contract package.<\/p>\n
\u201cme&you mobile was born out of the frustration that people have with mobile networks \u2013 expensive packages, complicated contracts that locks one in for 24 months, and poor customer service,\u201d said Howell.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that me&you mobile addresses what consumers have been crying out for.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group will roam on Cell C\u2019s network, and is owned by the Durban-based Ignition Group, while receiving infrastructure and billing platform support from MVN-X, which is headed up by Steve Bailey.<\/p>\n
According to Howell, the operator will be 100% online, which means people will only be able to purchase products and manage their service through an online portal.<\/p>\n
“Sign-up via the website takes only a few minutes – including RICA and number porting – and customer service can even be done via channels like Whatsapp,” Howell said.<\/p>\n
The me&you management console will allow clients to change their packages, top-up, or purchase additional bundles.<\/p>\n
Howell said they will target high-end customers who are looking for more flexibility and better value than what they are currently getting from mobile operators.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy not inflating rates with the cost of a handset, me&you mobile is able to guarantee the most affordable call rates in the country, as well as competitive data rates,\u201d said Howell.<\/p>\n
He added that consumers can look forward to an exciting \u201cunlimited offer\u201d at launch.<\/p>\n
Notably, billing will take place at the end of every month, meaning users can upgrade or downgrade their month-to-month service at any time.<\/p>\n
The changes will kick in at the beginning of the next month.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can cancel your contract at any time. Any outstanding payments will be charged at the end of the month,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n
