{"id":863344,"date":"2026-06-11T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=863344"},"modified":"2026-06-11T12:46:56","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T10:46:56","slug":"the-south-african-city-voted-one-of-the-best-in-the-world-for-food-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/863344\/the-south-african-city-voted-one-of-the-best-in-the-world-for-food-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The South African city voted one of the best in the world for food"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cape Town has been ranked the 11th-best city in the world for food in Time Out\u2019s 2026 ranking, sitting alongside global giants like Lima, Bangkok, Mexico City, London, and Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual ranking is based on a global survey of residents and evaluated by Time Out\u2019s international network of food experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It measures food quality, affordability, innovation, diversity, and local dining culture in cities across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Cape Town dropped from fourth place in 2025, the city received the third-highest score globally for food quality, with 93% of locals rating its food scene positively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its fall in the rankings was primarily attributed to affordability constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the standout experiences mentioned by Time Out were Amura by \u00c1ngel Le\u00f3n and the Test Kitchen Fledglings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said that this recognition is part of a broader wave of international acclaim for South African food and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Time Out ranked Zuney Burger\u2019s Wagyu Burger as the second-best burger in the world, following Tokyo\u2019s Smash Things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johannesburg&#8217;s Mafia Bite secured the eighth position, demonstrating the depth and diversity of South Africa\u2019s culinary scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country&#8217;s pizza offerings have also gained international acclaim, with Johannesburg&#8217;s Little Kitchener\u2019s Pizzeria and Cape Town\u2019s Pizza Connection being named among the world&#8217;s best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cape Town has made a significant appearance in Time Out\u2019s annual global culture rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These rankings are about far more than individual restaurants or cities. They reflect the richness of South Africa\u2019s cultural identity, shaped by diverse communities, traditions, influences and stories across the country,&#8221; said Time Out South Africa Managing Director Aisha Mohamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While Cape Town\u2019s recognition is significant, what excites us most is seeing South African creativity, entrepreneurship and cultural innovation earning recognition on the global stage,&#8221;
