Standard Bank’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), Standard Bank Connect, has launched a new eSIM as it looks to expand its customer base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The division, which relaunched from Standard Bank Mobile in 2024, has reached 350,000 customers, it said, while reporting “solid” year-on-year growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As customers move towards using multiple SIM cards to separate usage or optimise costs and coverage, the bank sees an opportunity to facilitate this better in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Industry estimates suggest that a large majority of mobile users in South Africa actively use more than one SIM,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe continued shift toward multi-SIM usage underpins our expansion into eSIM. Our ambition is to see eSIM become a meaningful share of our customer base by the end of 2026.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An eSIM is a digital SIM embedded directly into compatible smartphones and devices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It allows customers to activate mobile services digitally and store multiple profiles on a single device, making it easier to switch between numbers or plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With an eSIM, customers can manage multiple mobile plans on a single device without a physical SIM card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
