Police have launched an investigation into the attempted murder of Feroz Khan, the Suspended Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan is currently in critical condition at Netcare Milpark Hospital following a targeted shooting that occurred in Houghton on Sunday night, 28 June 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan was scheduled to testify at the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, 1 July, to answer a number of allegations of corruption made against him and other police officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police reports, a white Mercedes-Benz pulled up alongside Khan, who was driving a silver Suzuki. Two shots were fired, and he was struck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SAPS said it is deploying numerous investigators to the case, including the Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) detective services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The acting national commissioner has also asked the Political Killings Task Team to form part of this investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan is accused of interfering with police investigations. He has also been charged with violating the Precious Metals Act and obstructing justice in a separate matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe informed SABC<\/a> that, at this stage, it would be irresponsible to speculate on any possible motives or to draw conclusions about whether the attack is linked to his upcoming appearance at the Madlanga Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt this stage, the investigation will determine the facts, and we will allow the evidence to guide us,\u201d Mathe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that the police have also noted speculation suggesting that the incident may have been staged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police have urged the public not to spread unverified claims and stated that evidence must be investigated before any claims can be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe do not believe that anyone would go to such extreme lengths to avoid appearing before a commission,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SAPS said it views any attempt to intimidate, silence or attack any individual involved in judicial processes in the most serious light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAPS warned that any attempt to interfere with the administration of justice or the work of the commission will be met with the full might of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has condemned the attack and assured the public that no resource will be spared in identifying, tracing and arresting those responsible,” SAPS said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan was arrested in May on charges related to the illegal dealing and unlawful possession of precious metals. The investigation was conducted by the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Operations (GCI-OPS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan, along with Ebrahim Kadwa, the head of the Gauteng Hawks, and businessman Tariq Downes, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate\u2019s Court, where each was granted bail set at R20,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their arrests followed investigations into allegations of illicit precious metals transactions, corruption, and related offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are scheduled to return to court on 14 July, as the matter has been postponed for further investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan has approached the Gauteng High Court seeking the return of electronic devices that were seized during a search of his home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his urgent application, he argued that these devices contain highly sensitive intelligence information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed concerns that disclosing their contents could compromise national security, jeopardise undercover operations, and endanger lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the matter was struck from the court roll after it was revealed that the devices had been handed over to the Madlanga Commission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan has challenged the legality of this transfer and the commission\u2019s use of the material, arguing that it acted beyond its powers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khan is also alleged to have interfered in the 2021 Aeroton drug bust, which involved cocaine reportedly valued at approximately R300 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evidence presented to the commission suggested that some law enforcement officials attempted to steal part of the cocaine consignment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whistle-blowers and investigators have identified Khan as a central figure in these allegations; however, he was cleared during a disciplinary process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
