{"id":866050,"date":"2026-07-11T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=866050"},"modified":"2026-07-10T16:39:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T14:39:40","slug":"new-long-haul-international-flights-landing-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/866050\/new-long-haul-international-flights-landing-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"New long-haul international flights landing in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Turkish Airlines will increase the number of flights between South Africa and T\u00fcrkiye, joining a host of new international flights in South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline will start operating 20 weekly flights between the countries, with flights departing from and arriving in Cape Town and Johannesburg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline will soon operate 10 weekly direct flights between Istanbul and Johannesburg and 10 weekly direct flights between Istanbul and Cape Town, starting in October 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will expand the airline&#8217;s current operations, which currently include seven weekly flights to both Cape Town and Johannesburg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The additional flights will come just ahead of South Africa&#8217;s summer tourism season, following the work between the South African government and the airline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is another vote of confidence in our tourism sector and aligns with our efforts to improve air access through the Tourism Growth Partnership Plan,&#8221; said Tourism Minister Patricia De Lille. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;More flights mean more visitors, more trade, more investment, and ultimately, more jobs.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Lille&#8217;s department said the increased frequency is supported by strong market performance, with arrivals from T\u00fcrkiye up 92% in May 2026 compared to May 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s tourism sector continues to build strong momentum following a record 10.5 million international arrivals in 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To stimulate demand for the route, South African Tourism and Turkish Airlines have also agreed to implement a joint destination marketing campaign to promote travel between the two countries.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A host of new flights coming to South Africa <\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Patricia-de-Lille.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Patricia-de-Lille-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-829374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Patricia-de-Lille-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Patricia-de-Lille-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Patricia-de-Lille-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Patricia-de-Lille.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The announcement follows a series of positive developments in South Africa&#8217;s international air connectivity, including several new international routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes Spanish carrier Air Europa launching its first direct service between Madrid and Johannesburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having launched in June, the service is operating three times a week, creating a direct link between South Africa and Spain and providing easier access to destinations across Europe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s LATAM Airlines has also launched three weekly direct flights between S\u00e3o Paulo and Cape Town.
