Furthermore, he asked for any related parliamentary actions to be suspended until the review is resolved.

While the panel indicated that Ramaphosa might have breached the constitution and his oath of office, he has consistently asserted his innocence.

Independent investigations conducted by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and South African Reserve Bank (SARB) found no indication that the president had violated any laws.

DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis said the party accepts the latest judgment; however, he said it does not clear the president of anything.

“The judgment does not decide whether the allegations arising from Phala Phala are true, nor does it clear the President of wrongdoing,” he said.

“It determines the order in which the judicial and parliamentary processes must unfold.”

The DA, a party to the Government of National Unity that elected Ramaphosa as president with the Phala Phala saga hanging over his head, did not join opposition parties in challenging the case.

Parties that opposed Ramaphosa’s interdict bid—EFF, MK, and other smaller parties—had argued that the interdict would cross the separation of powers by usurping parliament’s powers.

They also argued that interdicting the parliamentary process would run against the Constitutional Court ruling that forced the impeachment process to proceed.

The MK party responded to the ruling, saying they were disappointed but not surprised by the outcome.

The party accused the judiciary of protecting the president, and said that they would study the judgment and look to take the matter back to the Constitutional Court.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has responded to the Western Cape High Court interdicting parliament’s impeachment proceedings.

[23
2061,1916,12501
post-867392","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-government","tag-democratic-alliance","tag-parliament","tag-ramaphosa
["GET
