{"id":867642,"date":"2026-07-27T17:03:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T15:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=867642"},"modified":"2026-07-27T17:03:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T15:03:04","slug":"amazon-in-new-partnership-with-vodacom-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/867642\/amazon-in-new-partnership-with-vodacom-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon in new partnership with Vodacom in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Vodacom has partnered with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to address the increasing demand for job-ready artificial intelligence (AI) and data science skills in South Africa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vodacom said that this collaboration unites industry, academia, and cloud technology to provide students with practical experience in tackling real-world AI challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative will be delivered through UJ\u2019s School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems, particularly its Centre for Applied Data Science.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It aims to support co-designed learning programs, postgraduate research, and industry mentorship.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is to create a sustainable pipeline of AI talent that is equipped to develop practical solutions for businesses and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis partnership reflects Vodacom\u2019s commitment to building a future-ready AI talent ecosystem,\u201d said Vodacom Group Chief Executive Officer Shameel Joosub.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are creating a direct pathway from university research to industry impact, where students work on real AI use cases and emerge ready to practise,\u201d said Joosub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that it is about developing the next generation of AI professionals who can drive the business forward and help shape Africa\u2019s digital future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis collaboration creates a foundation for sustained capability-building and demonstrates how strategic partnerships can strengthen AI expertise at both national and continental level,\u201d said UJ College of Business and Economics Executive Dean Tankiso Moloi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor UJ, the value of university-industry partnerships lies in what they make possible over time: deeper research capacity, stronger talent development and an ecosystem that connects African expertise with African opportunities,\u201d said Moloi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The partnership is focused on high-impact areas.
