Spur’s newest location has seen lines out the door almost every day since it opened, with Pretoria residents desperate to see the restaurant and its massive kids’ play area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant, named Burning Arrow Spur, opened in Queenswood, Pretoria, on 6 July 2026, as a standalone building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The franchiser was already in the area, in a smaller venue, with the restaurant then moving to the new, larger location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant is far larger than its previous location and features large children’s play areas with a range of activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These include LED-lit slides, a woven play module, and a dedicated toddler area designed for younger children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansive indoor play areas are a particular attraction as the spaces are free, compared to many other businesses which charge for similar facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spur Corporation said that the new restaurant was largely designed around this large children’s area, with a focus on catering to families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Designed around a vibrant space-inspired Play World, the restaurant creates a sense of adventure, imagination and joyful escapism for children while parents relax,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant is also family-owned, with Jacques and Frikkie Marais, a father-son duo, operating both the previous and new locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spur said the family operators embody the group’s focus on catering to families and local communities where they are located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Jacques and Frikkie continue to nurture those relationships while creating new opportunities for families to come together,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“More than just a restaurant, Burning Arrow Spur reflects a family legacy built on genuine relationships and community connection.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The focus on catering to families seems to have paid off for the business, with people often queuing outside the restaurant to get in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These queues have extended out the door of the restaurant on some days, and curved around the side of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spur’s CMO Vuyo Henda said the new location is a strong addition to their current list of restaurants and embodies the group’s overall strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Families are looking for places where children are welcomed, parents can relax, and everyday occasions can become moments of connection and joy,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The new Burning Arrow Spur has given us the opportunity to create an even more engaging family destination”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spur said its focus on providing a family-oriented environment is what helps it stand out in a “competitive dining environment”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The franchise is synonymous with family-friendly accommodations, with almost all of its locations featuring children’s play areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its stores have also taken steps in recent years to promote themselves to children, such as digital tags for children which trigger an alarm if the child leaves the restaurant unsupervised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These technologies help establish the franchise as a safe place for children, a major factor for many parents looking to go out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many Spur locations also have dedicated staff for overseeing the children’s play areas, ensuring safety and giving parents peace of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family-friendly approach has been successful for Spur in the past, with the group seeing revenue of R8.8 billion in its last interim report, for the six months ended December 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its interim results, the company said that a large part of its continued success was due to ensuring its brands remained relevant to South Africans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is currently working on a brand transformation to ensure it stays relevant, which it said has been largely successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It reported that at the end of 2025, 79 of its stores were working under the new concept, including its first two drive-thru outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The transformation of the 58-year-old Spur brand has generated heightened interest among both
consumers and franchisees,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
