{"id":86988,"date":"2015-05-11T23:54:49","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T21:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=86988"},"modified":"2015-05-20T08:34:07","modified_gmt":"2015-05-20T06:34:07","slug":"sabc-guest-smokes-weed-live-on-air","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/86988\/sabc-guest-smokes-weed-live-on-air\/","title":{"rendered":"SABC guest smokes weed live on air"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A guest on the SABC Newsroom program discussing the legalisation of cannabis in South Africa ended his appearance by lighting up what appears to be a dagga joint while live on air.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Cannabis Working Group, Andre du Plessis joined\u00a0Central Drug Authority (CDA) deputy Chairperson, David Nayever, in a discussion about cannabis legalisation on the SABC segment which aired on Monday (11 May).<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sabc.co.za\/news\/a\/d3bea880485586329513bfe1ccb64421\/Newsroom-guest-lights-up-a-joint-on-screen-20151105\" target=\"_blank\">SABC broadcast<\/a>, Nayever\u00a0said the CDA\u00a0is aware that the legalisation of cannabis is something that needs to be investigated seriously and it would\u00a0look at what is best for South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Nayever noted, however, that recent xenophobic attacks in the country had delayed the discussions.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly annoyed by the notion that xenophobia had a part to play, Du Plessis interjected, saying:\u00a0\u201cThe CDA is 11 years late in presenting its position paper. Please don\u2019t bring xenophobia into this as a form excuse into being late and doing your job.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Du Plessis then proceeded to take out what appears to be a cannabis joint, and lit it on screen.<\/p>\n<p>You can see the clip below:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sw_0GZdTJQA\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In response, the SABC distanced itself from Du Plessis&#8217; actions:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The SABC Broadcaster and the SABC Newsroom does not condone the actions of our guest Andre Du Plessis.
