A new R400 million mall has opened its doors in Johannesburg, measuring nearly 20,000 square metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleurhof Mall opened on 27 August and is a 19,561-square-metre retail centre developed jointly by Abcon Developments and Masingita Property Investment Holdings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mall is the first major shopping and services destination for one of Johannesburg\u2019s largest integrated housing developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mall houses popular retailers such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Edgars, Dischem, and Clicks, and features a diverse mix of national retailers, restaurants, and services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is located on Fleurhof Drive, a commuter route completed in 2017 that connects Soweto directly to Florida, Roodepoort, and the wider West Rand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mall is designed to serve the primary catchment areas of Fleurhof, Robertville, and Meadowlands, with a secondary market extending into Florida North, eastern Robertville, and Roodepoort North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opening of Fleurhof Mall follows a construction period that created over a thousand jobs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the surrounding area, more than 9,000 housing units have been delivered over the past decade, including a mix of RDP houses, social housing, and private developments like Legacy Hill Estate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further phases of development are reportedly underway, which will include new schools, green spaces, and a community centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFleurhof has spent ten years building rooftops without a retail centre to match them,\u201d said Abcon Developments Managing Director Bryce O’Donnell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O\u2019Donnell said that every household that has moved into Fleurhof has been driving to Roodepoort or into Soweto to buy basic groceries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis mall offers convenience and access for a market that has been underserved for a decade and is finally getting the infrastructure it should have had years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to serving national brands, the centre is designed to function as a daily-use area rather than just a weekend shopping destination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a community of this size, the mall aims to provide a platform for local entrepreneurs, allowing them to reach a much larger customer base than a standalone storefront could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA mall like this only means something if it changes how people move through their day,\u201d said O\u2019Donnell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf a mother can do her shopping, bank and pick up school shoes in one stop instead of three taxi rides, that is the real win,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abcon Developments emphasised the importance of including smaller, local businesses within the centre, alongside larger national brands, as a healthy precinct requires both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abcon Developments said that Fleurhof Mall adds to a broader portfolio of developments across Gauteng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes Sandton Gate Central in Johannesburg, Loftus Park in Pretoria, Leaping Frog Retail Centre in Fourways, and Hertford Office Park in Midrand, encompassing retail, office, and large-scale mixed-use precincts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masingita Group of Companies Founder and Chairman Mike Nkuna said that Fleurhof Mall\u2019s placement serves as a direct economic corridor between Soweto and the West Rand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that this gives residents and small businesses on both sides of the \u201chistoric divide\u201d the opportunity to grow together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter 43 years of rural and township development, Fleurhof Mall marks another fulfilled commitment. We are shaping our communities into the urban promise of prosperity,\u201d said Nkuna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleurhof Mall adds to the Masingita retail portfolio, which spans 230,000 square metres across Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This portfolio includes Masingita Mall, Makhado Crossing, Boitumelo Junction, Mphephu Plaza, Zebediela Plaza, and Stimela Crossing, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleurhof Mall is now open to the public, with 53 stores already trading. Additional tenants are completing their fit-outs and will open their doors in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
