The transaction became effective on 22 February 2026, with Shoprite receiving R39 million for the business the following day.

The group has also effectively completed its exit from Nigeria as a distinct geographical market.

Having previously sold its Nigerian retail operations, Shoprite agreed during the second half of the latest reporting period to dispose of its remaining property developments in the country.

Booming at home

The retailer has also been shrinking its furniture footprint. Its non-South African furniture businesses in Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Zambia were sold on 1 October 2025 for R568 million after the settlement of transferred contract liabilities.

Shoprite abandoned its Furniture Mozambique operations after they were excluded from the sale. The stores stopped trading at the end of April 2025.

In South Africa, Shoprite has agreed to sell its furniture business, including the OK Furniture and House and Home brands, to Pepkor.
