They want more value and a simplified offering,” he said.

“What we are providing is something built around customer needs, rather than overlapping packages that try to be something for everybody.”

Ngwepe said that the other critical issue is providing additional content, which is why the group is bringing new channels while revamping existing channels.

New channels include entertainment channel Wethu+ and SuperSport Kickoff.

The CEO said that the group is strengthening movie channels with M-Net Movies+, M-Net Movies Stars and M-Net Movies Legends.

Sports channels will also be renamed, such as SuperSport Football Plus, SuperSport Africa, SuperSport Extra and SuperSport Extra 2.

Third-party channels will also be added, including France24 and Church TV.

On pricing, the CEO said that the new pricing applies to the new streaming packages, but the Direct-to-Home satellite pricing has not changed.

“We haven’t changed our pricing. The price points stay the same. The [new] pricing is specifically for the streaming offering, but the DTH pricing has not changed,” he said.

The new packages include a brand-new standalone package for movies and series, and an overhauled sports package called DStv Sports.

The new packages are expected to launch on 17 September. The packages are Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series, and Premium.

The Starter package will cost R99 per month and offer 85 channels, including some sports, characterised as a “taster” for what DStv has to offer.

Prices jump to R299 per month for Select, with 100 channels and additional sports content.

A package many subscribers have been calling for is a separate Sports package, which will carry 115 channels and offer even more sports content, as well as some entertainment channels, for R399 a month.

The Movies & Series package will start at R500 per month and will carry 115 channels with a stronger entertainment focus, including M-Net, kykNET, and M Movies+.

The Premium package is the only legacy DStv package that retains its name and will cost R799 per month for 130 TV channels.

The table below outlines the new packages:

New Package

Channels

Price

Starter

85

R99

Select

100

R299

Sports

115

R399

Movies &
