Billionaire Johann Rupert’s son, Anton Rupert, has been appointed non-executive co-deputy chairman of Compagnie Financi\u00e8re Richemont (Richemont).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Richemont is a Swiss company with a portfolio of high-end brands across several luxury categories, such as jewellery and watches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the company’s primary listing is in Switzerland, it has a secondary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company was founded by Johann Rupert, a South African businessman and one of the country’s few dollar billionaires. He is the richest man in the country, according to Forbes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, Richemont said it had appointed Anton Rupert to a non-executive role in the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Richemont is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Anton Rupert as Non-executive Co-Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, with immediate effect,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He will serve alongside Mr Bram Schot, who was appointed Non-executive Deputy Chairman in 2024 and who will continue in his role as Non-executive Co-Deputy Chairman.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anton Rupert has served as a non-executive director of Richemont since 2017, along with several other executive positions in companies such as Remgro and Watchfinder.co.uk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He has knowledge of and insight into tech start-ups and has had extensive exposure to all of the Group\u2019s businesses,” Richemont said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He brings valuable insight into changing consumer behaviour in digital marketing and web-based commerce.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Richemont’s two non-executive co-deputy chairmen will serve alongside each other, working on complementary remits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anton Rupert will handle the company’s strategic product and communications committee, “ensuring continuity in an area of central importance to the Group’s creative and commercial direction.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Schot will oversee the governance of the company’s board and committee-related matters, including the coordination of its corporate governance framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Richemont said this division would reflect “the Board’s commitment to robust governance and to ensuring that both the Group’s strategic priorities and its governance obligations receive dedicated attention at Non-executive Co-Deputy Chairman level.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Richemont chairman Johann Rupert said the appointment was an important step in the company’s long-term succession planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
