South African entrepreneur Lindiwe Shibambo started her career as a domestic worker and went on to found a domestic services company, Maid4U, which she says is valued at more than R50 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Shibambo began her career as a domestic worker, she recalled entering homes with appliances she had never used before and being expected to operate them without any training or guidance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that there were no employment contracts, clear job descriptions, or structured work schedules in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe experience showed me that both workers and employers were being failed by the lack of structure in the sector,\u201d said Shibambo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said domestic workers were expected to arrive fully equipped for the job, often without any formal training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, she said households had limited systems for recruitment, compliance or managing expectations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaid4U was created to close that gap,\u201d said Shibambo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maid4U is a South African household services company specialising in the recruitment, screening, vetting, training and placement of domestic workers, nannies, caregivers and gardeners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also helps households with employment contracts, payroll administration, UIF registration and Compensation Fund compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shibambo said the company assists workers looking for training and fair employment opportunities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said it aims to increase access to professional household services, training, and employment opportunities throughout South Africa through its franchise model.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Domestic Services Industry in South Africa is significant, operating within a broader household and care services sector valued at over R15 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shibambo told BusinessTech that the value of Maid4U is upwards of R50 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaid4U, since its inception, has trained over 5,000 women and men in Cleaning and Hygiene, Domestic Services, Housekeeping and Care Work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the company has helped over 10,000 people find jobs and assisted more than 15,000 households by providing trained workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also supports households with home employees by offering BCEA-compliant payslips, work schedules, disciplinary guidelines, and assistance with UIF and COIDA registrations to ensure compliance with HR regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maid4U is expanding its footprint<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The company is expanding its franchise footprint by selling local franchises to local business owners. The group will be selling franchises rather than opening every branch itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is part of its mission to bring \u201cgreater professionalism, structure and dignity to the country\u2019s domestic services sector.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shibambo registered Maid4U in 2008, and the business became fully operational after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.\u00a0Within its first six months of operation, it serviced over 100 households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As demand increased, the company developed documented operating procedures, training programs, and quality control systems that could be replicated in various markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Franchising was identified as the next step for expanding the business beyond a single operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur growth confirmed that the challenges experienced by families and domestic workers were not limited to one area,\u201d said Shibambo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFranchising allows us to establish locally led businesses closer to the communities we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said each franchise can help more households, train more workers, and create employment while operating in accordance with consistent Maid4U standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After expanding from a single operation, Maid4U created documented operating procedures, quality-control protocols, and training systems that can be replicated across regional markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Franchisees will get immediate access to the Maid4U brand, standardised operating systems, recruitment processes, structured training programs, and specialised knowledge in household human resources and legal compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
