Bozell followed up the announcement, saying that the visa restrictions are only the first part of the United States’ measures against South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the United States is moving on from endless discourse and is now taking action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This visa restriction policy is only the first step in a series of escalatory measures <\/strong>that will show America\u2019s firm resolve in this matter,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bozell said the measures were being taken as the US was not satisfied with the outcomes of previous discussions between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The time for endless ‘dialogue’ has run its course. No more. America has just so much patience. We want strong, and lasting relations with the South African government.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n “It needs to show it wants the same. So far, it has shown it cares for neither. As a result, the consequences, as I\u2019ve attempted time and again to express, are necessarily going to be severe<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bozell did not elaborate on what further actions or consequences may be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The visa restrictions imposed on South Africa stem from policies such as Black Economic Empowerment and land expropriation without compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In his statement, Rubio highlighted both BEE and land expropriation laws and said that South Africa had not done enough to adequately address the US’s concerns regarding them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In March 2026, Bozell outlined five \u201casks\u201d directed to the South African government regarding these policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\nSouth Africa’s policies in the crosshairs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
