Toyota, Lexus, and Jeep have announced a product recall affecting 2,575 vehicles due to several safety concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Toyota, the recall affects 2,279 Land Cruiser Prados sold between December 2023 and August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recall is due to a software error when starting the vehicle, which impacts the combination meter and can stop safety warnings from being displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) said the error could result in a blank digital display on vehicles when the software is first switched on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“During meter startup, the 3D graphics Micro Controller Unit may not fully initialise, resulting in a blank image in the 3D graphics area, which is part of the meter,” the NCC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In this condition, the indicators for engine oil pressure, engine coolant temperature, electrical charge, and other warning messages may not display on the combination meter.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another vehicle part of the recall is the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was sold in South Africa between 2023 and 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recall impacts 255 models of this vehicle, but the manufacturer confirmed that it has four of the affected vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Jeep vehicles are being recalled due to safety concerns around the side airbags potentially deploying late due to faulty sensors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stellantis South Africa said the affected vehicles may have been built with software that would cause sensor faults to last for the vehicle’s lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The Airbag Control Unit module on the affected modules may have been built containing software which may cause transient door airbag pressure sensor faults to remain active for the lifetime of the sensor,” the NCC said. “This may result in delayed deployment of the Side Air Bag (SAB).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“A delayed deployment of the SAB may reduce front seat occupant protection in the event of certain types of crashes, potentially resulting in an increased risk of injury to motor vehicle occupants.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These airbag sensor faults were also noted in two Lexus models, the GX and UX-41, which were sold in South Africa between April 2024 and September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recall affects 41 Lexus vehicles due to a potential sensor fault in the side airbags, which could delay deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
