{"id":87816,"date":"2015-05-20T08:16:36","date_gmt":"2015-05-20T06:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=87816"},"modified":"2015-05-20T08:16:36","modified_gmt":"2015-05-20T06:16:36","slug":"rising-petrol-prices-push-inflation-higher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/87816\/rising-petrol-prices-push-inflation-higher\/","title":{"rendered":"Rising petrol prices push inflation higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s inflation rate is set to increase to 4.5% as a continued result of petrol hikes, according to Fin24\u2019s inflation expert.<\/p>\n<p>The Inflation Factory\u2019s (TIF) Riyadh Bhyat said the large petrol price changes are having a significant effect on Consumer Price Index (CPI), revealing that his Real Time CPI Index stood at 114.1 at the end of April, implying a year-on-year (y\/y) inflation of 4.5% and month-on-month inflation of 0.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Stats SA will release the official results later on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the second monthly increase in (y\/y) inflation following six months of decreases, and has been driven by the 14% increase in the petrol price in April,\u201d said Bhyat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen coupled with the 10% increase in March these price hikes have taken petrol back to its November 2014 price.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The large petrol price changes are having a significant effect on CPI,&#8221;
