{"id":88632,"date":"2015-05-26T15:04:58","date_gmt":"2015-05-26T13:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=88632"},"modified":"2015-05-26T15:04:58","modified_gmt":"2015-05-26T13:04:58","slug":"zuma-warned-over-alleged-racist-remarks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/88632\/zuma-warned-over-alleged-racist-remarks\/","title":{"rendered":"Zuma warned over alleged &#8216;racist&#8217; remarks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"st\">AfriForum, a South African civil-rights organisation linked to the Solidarity trade union, has accused\u00a0President Jacob Zuma of dragging the country into &#8220;an evil cycle of racial hatred&#8221;. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>It follows an address by President Zuma on the occasion of the Africa Day Celebrations, University of Pretoria, Mamelodi on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>According to AfriForum, Zuma said that &#8220;Africans lived in peace with each other and had fun, but then came the others&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Zuma allegedly claimed earlier in the year that all the problems in the country started with the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, Zuma\u2019s pronouncements are an uncovered attempt to exempt Afrikaners and whites in particular as a scapegoat in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Kriel said that AfriForum will see to it that Zuma is called to responsibility before international courts of justice if his \u201crash\u201d pronouncements give rise to increased ethnic conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is in the interest of all of us that we are not dragged into an evil cycle of racial hatred by irresponsible leaders such as Zuma,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Solidarity, meanwhile descibed Zuma\u2019s alleged remarks that Africans had lived together peacefully until \u201cthe others\u201d arrived, as xenophobic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;President Zuma is clearly trying to incite further racial polarisation,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZuma\u2019s remarks confirm his obsession with race in all spheres, which confirms that the motion of no confidence in the Zuma government adopted at the summit is justified,\u201d said Solidarity&#8217;s Johan Kruger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZuma\u2019s deliberate distortion of history forms part of the ANC\u2019s attempts to criminalise Afrikaner history on the basis of the party\u2019s ideological viewpoints.
