{"id":89286,"date":"2015-06-02T09:34:44","date_gmt":"2015-06-02T07:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=89286"},"modified":"2015-06-02T09:34:44","modified_gmt":"2015-06-02T07:34:44","slug":"two-cape-town-restaurants-make-worlds-100-best-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/89286\/two-cape-town-restaurants-make-worlds-100-best-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Cape Town restaurants make world&#8217;s 100 best list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Taste Kitchen in Cape Town has been voted among the top 50 restaurants in the world according to a new list for 2015, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca regained its title as The S.Pellegrino World\u2019s Best Restaurant. Previously the No.1 in 2013, the Roca brothers\u2019\u00a0 restaurant has continued\u00a0\u00a0 to\u00a0 gain global\u00a0\u00a0 recognition\u00a0\u00a0 for\u00a0 its gastronomic prowess.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring restaurants from 21 countries around the world across six continents, the list provides an annual barometer of the greatest gastronomic experiences across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>El Celler de Can Roca was opened in 1986 by brothers Joan and Josep alongside their\u00a0 parents\u2019 simple restaurant in Girona.\u00a0 In 2007, younger brother Jordi\u00a0 completed the trio that has since created a\u00a0 gastronomic phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>With seven restaurants in the 50 Best list, Spain has more than one reason to\u00a0 celebrate\u00a0 with\u00a0 Mugaritz remaining at No.6 and Tickets in Barcelona making its first appearance in the list at No.42.<\/p>\n<p>France boasts five restaurants in the 50 Best with Mirazur remaining at No.11 for the second year running, followed by L\u2019Arpege in Paris which has climbed 13 places in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Top of the 2014 list, Noma, a four-time Danish winner, was bumped down to third to make way for an Italian runner-up, Modena\u2019s Osteria Francescana.<\/p>\n<p>Eight new restaurants gain a place in the 50 Best list, which has been published\u00a0 since\u00a0 2002.<\/p>\n<p>The list is created from the votes of\u00a0 The\u00a0 Diners Club World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of almost 1,000 international leaders in the restaurant community.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_89298\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/The-Test-Kitchen.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89298\" class=\"size-full 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-89298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A meal from The Test Kitchen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>South Africa had two restaurants in the top 100, with The Test Kitchen in Cape Town ranked highest at 28th &#8211; up\u00a0from 48th on the list in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The Test Kitchen, which opened in November 2010, is headed by\u00a0Luke Dale-Roberts, who places\u00a0a big focus on flavour.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most important thing is flavour, and layers of flavour,\u201d Dale-Roberts said.<\/p>\n<p>The British-born chef trained in Switzerland and England before heading to Asia for a five year stint, launching several restaurants in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>The Tasting Room at\u00a0Le Quartier Fran\u00e7ais in Franschoek is the only other showing by South Africa on the list, which was ranked 88th, overall, down from 72nd place in 2014.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_89300\"
