{"id":8969,"date":"2012-04-02T17:05:25","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T15:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=8969"},"modified":"2012-04-03T10:45:22","modified_gmt":"2012-04-03T08:45:22","slug":"telkom-why-always-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/8969\/telkom-why-always-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Telkom: Why always us?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telecommunications group <a title=\"Telkom (TKG)\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1637-Telkom\">Telkom (TKG)<\/a> says it is concerned over the recent trend of firms challenging the awarding of key tenders in the courts, without foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The group was forced to stop its planned R13 billion network overhaul after infrastructure provider, <a title=\"ZTE Mzansi\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1676-ZTE-Corporation\">ZTE Mzansi<\/a>, won a court order on Friday (30 March 2012) to halt the project.<\/p>\n<p>ZTE Mzansi, a joint venture between China\u2019s ZTE Corp and local black-owned companies, took Telkom to court after being disqualified from a bidding process related to the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTelkom is confident that its robust Procurement Policy, and the process of applying it, will stand up to scrutiny, despite recent attempts to challenge tenders issued by the company in court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPending the outcome of the dispute resolution process, Telkom is interdicted from implementing the tender and concluding any service level agreement with the bidders,\u201d the group said in a statement late Monday (2 April 2012).<\/p>\n<p>The group added that, while it is committed to finding a resolution to the dispute as soon as is practically possible, \u201cthe company is concerned at the recent trend of challenging the awarding of key tenders, in the courts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It noted\u00a0 that this often has serious consequences for customers by stalling rollout plans \u201cunnecessarily\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom Group CEO, <a title=\"Nombulelo Moholi\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1667-Nombulelo-Pinky-Moholi\">Nombulelo Moholi<\/a> said: \u201cIt is Telkom\u2019s Procurement Policy and Procedures that are on trial here. I am confident that they will not be found wanting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTelkom is often considered to be fair game by losing bidders, who may feel entitled to be awarded business by the company.
