{"id":90024,"date":"2015-06-08T07:24:25","date_gmt":"2015-06-08T05:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=90024"},"modified":"2015-06-08T07:28:52","modified_gmt":"2015-06-08T05:28:52","slug":"soweto-shops-looted-in-electricity-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/90024\/soweto-shops-looted-in-electricity-protest\/","title":{"rendered":"Soweto shops looted in electricity protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bottle store and a KFC outlet were looted in Dube, Soweto, on Sunday night, apparently during a protest against Eskom installing pre-paid electricity meters in the area, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Locals, apparently residents of the Dube Hostel, also tried to break open two ATMs next to the KFC, but police arrived and the culprits fled empty-handed, Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa said on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>He said the violence began at around 19:00.
