{"id":9042,"date":"2012-04-03T12:04:19","date_gmt":"2012-04-03T10:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=9042"},"modified":"2012-04-03T12:41:05","modified_gmt":"2012-04-03T10:41:05","slug":"fnb-ewallet-hits-1-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/9042\/fnb-ewallet-hits-1-million\/","title":{"rendered":"FNB eWallet reaches landmark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"FNB - First National Bank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1730-FNB-First-National-Bank\">FNB<\/a> announced today (3 April 2012) that more than one million FNB eWallets have been created &#8211; with more than R1.6 billion paid into them since 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The FNB eWallet allows people to send money to anyone in South Africa with a valid cellphone number. Funds are transferred instantly and the recipient receives an <a title=\"SMS - Short Message Service\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1731-SMS-Short-Message-Service\">SMS<\/a> indicating that funds have been sent to their cellphone.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients are able to withdraw cash at FNB ATMs, buy pre-paid airtime or electricity, send money to another cellphone, purchase and\/or get cash at selected retailers as well as make once off payments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen year-on-year eWallet growth of 143% since January 2011,\u201d said FNB&#8217;s CEO of eWallet Solutions, <a title=\"Yolande van Wyk\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1732-Yolande-van-Wyk\">Yolande van Wyk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAverage daily Send values are in excess of R3 million &#8211; double the figures we saw a year ago.
